Let’s face it. Some days are going to suck. You will have sucky days no matter who you are or what you do. It’s the price you pay for being in the game of life.
It’s during these days when well-meaning friends say stupid things like, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” or “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.” and “Whenever God closes a door, he always opens a window.” And they’re right. Those sayings are true, but that doesn’t make them any less stupid.
I’ve had a sucky day today. Nothing major. Everyone is healthy, and no one died, but my day sucked. Usually, I would make myself feel better by making a Gratitude List, calling a friend and telling them that I love them, or drowning my sorrows in a vat of ice cream. Today sucked so bad that I didn’t even want to think about trying those things! We’ve all been there.
When I’m feeling like this, I remember something an old friend named Clancy said: “Sometimes you just have to hold on until midnight.”
For decades Clancy worked with a bunch of people that were trying to make themselves better. These people were at rock bottom but reaching for the stars. Sometimes they would have days that sucked, and they wanted to blow up everything good they had scraped together in their lives. Then, Clancy would tell them, “Sometimes you just have to hold on until midnight.”
Because after midnight is tomorrow, and when you’re feeling down, tomorrow is where the hope is. All we want on a sucky day is hope.
So that’s what I’ve done today. I’ve just tried to hold on until midnight. Because this sucky day isn’t going to last forever, it’s just a day. When this day is over, it will be tomorrow; I know that’s where the hope is.
I love you all, and I hope you have a great day!
