I have only one goal for this blog post. And that goal is to write THE WORST BLOG POST EVER!!!
Actually that’s not true.
My real goal for this blog post is to write a blog post. And I am going to accomplish this goal by writing THE WORST BLOG POST EVER!!!
Let me explain.
Why I’m Writing The Worst Blog Post Ever:
I’ve been wanting to start a blog since a time when blogs were still considered relevant. (I’m talking about 2007 or so. Back in the days when Tim Ferriss was known as “That guy who wrote the book about 48 hours or something like that.”) But I never started my blog. Because I was scared.
So now I’m about 18 years behind the blogging trend. But what am I going to do? I can’t turn back the clock. So I’m going to push forward using the time tested credo, “Better late than never!” (By the way, never use this line if you’re late for an appearance in court. Trust me on this!) and write this blog post!
But I still have the same problem. I’m still scared. And the fear of what other people will think of my writing and my ideas has me paralyzed. So I have decided to use a simple trick to overcome my fear.
I’m going to suck…on purpose.
Why I’m Going To Suck On Purpose:
Often when I was teaching one of my improv classes, a student will be like me, paralyzed by fear. And they would be afraid to take the next action as indicated by the scene. They were blocked. And I would get them to break through that block by uttering one simple sentence.
Whatever your character is doing right now, do it badly.
Why I Wanted Them To Do It Badly:
The student onstage was afraid to move forward because they were “trying to do it right.” They were trying to be perfect when creating something that has never existed before. And this expectation was blocking them from revealing the gifts they had to offer the scene and their scene partner.
But when the student made their character do things badly (Whatever that means to them.), their expectations disappeared, and they turned what was hard work into play. They moved from a space of obligation to a space of inspiration.
They got out of their head and into their heart.
So that’s what I am attempting to do. Instead of writing the perfect blog post, I am writing THE WORST BLOG POST EVER! And by doing this, I’m finding the fun of writing and letting people know some of the lessons I’ve learned from my many years of teaching people to be more creative and live a happier life. (I’m even smiling right now!)
And you know what? As of right now, I’ve succeeded in reaching my goal. I’ve written a blog post. I’ll let you decide if this blog post is good or not. That’s up to you. My job is only to write it as best I can at this given moment.
I love you all and I hope everyone has a great day!
