I’m late in posting my Atomic Essay for the day because I had to go to the Vanderbilt MS Clinic to get an infusion of Ocrevus, a drug hopefully slows down the lesions forming on my nervous system because of Multiple Sclerosis.

I hate that I have to do this twice a year. But rather than feeling bad that I have to do something I don’t want to do, I ask myself, “What does this make possible?” And by asking that question this morning, I came up with 3 Great Things:

Great Thing #1: I get to eat donuts! Since 1973, Fox’s Donut Den (@foxsdonutden) has been peddling donuts in Nashville. They have a great sign, but more importantly, they have great donuts! I’m a sucker for vintage signs and yummy donuts but rarely in their neighborhood. Except when I’m getting an infusion! So I’ve made it a pre-game ritual to stop at Fox’s Donut Den before I go to the clinic for my infusion.

Great Thing #2: Benadryl! Before the nurse puts the Ocrevus into my body, they put Benadryl into my IV, which makes me feel higher than a kite. I love Benadryl! And since I’m sober and haven’t had alcohol or drugs for over 30 years, so I REALLY love Benadryl! I get high as bejesus, and since it’s a medical procedure, I don’t have to return any AA chips! (If you’re in a recovery program and have problems with this logic, DM your sponsor!)

Great Thing #3: I’m The Funniest Person In The Infusion Center! The bar is set very low to be The Funniest Person In The Infusion Center, but I’ll take my victories where I can get ’em!

So there you have it! At least Three Great Things happened because I had to get an infusion to fight MS today. So if you’re going through something that seems like a setback, ask yourself, “What does this make possible?”. And before you know it, you might find yourself stuffed full of donuts, hopped up on Benadryl, and trying to make sick people laugh! Good times!

And if “What does this make possible?” doesn’t work for you, take a cue from Monty Python in “Life Of Brian” and “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life!”

I love you all, and I hope you have a great day!
