There are tons of books about writing and I’ve read them all! I’ve read On Writing by Stephen King, The War Of Art by Steven Pressfield, The Art Of Dramatic Writing by Lajos Ergi, and, of course, Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott. Along with about a million other books on writing!

I’ve read all those books about writing because if I’m reading those books about writing, I’m almost writing. I may not actually be writing, but I’m getting ready to write by reading about writing, and that’s the same thing as writing, right? (Spoiler Alert: It’s not!)

There is, however, one book that, even though I haven’t read it cover to cover, has helped more than any of those famous books: Take Ten For Writers by Bonnie Neubauer. According to the cover, this book is a collection of “1,000 inspiring exercises” designed to “Generate ideas and stimulate your writing IN ONLY 10 MINUTES A DAY.”

Here 3 Reasons Why Take Ten For Writers Is The Must Have Book For Writers:

Reason #1: This book doesn’t tell you how to write, this book tells you to write! (For only 10 minutes!) And trust me, you will get more writing done if you’re writing instead of reading!

Reason #2: Doing any one of the 1,000 inspiring exercises, will get you to start writing! For me, the hardest part of writing is getting started. If I take 10 minutes to do one of the exercises in this book, it eases me into my writing session, and then I’m ready to keep writing!

Reason #3: It doesn’t matter what you write, because nobody, not even you, is going to read it! Doing these 10 minutes exercises isn’t about writing well. It’s about writing! And it doesn’t matter how good or how bad you think your writing is, you’re writing! And that’s all that matters!

This book is easy to find on Amazon or Thriftbooks.com. I have probably purchased 20 copies of this book throughout the years because anytime someone tells me that they’re having a hard time writing, I give them my copy of this book.

So if you want to write, but can’t get started, stop reading your copy of Zen in the Art Of Writing, pick up your copy of Take Ten For Writers, and write away!
